Who is Handicapped?
When was the last time you spoke to a handicapped without being conscious of his disability? Yes, it’s difficult isn’t it? You feel so conscious of their helplessness that you can’t face them directly at least the first time you met them. But did you ever realize that you can be more disabled than them. Can you walk in the place you have always been walking with your eyes closed or say when there is no light? A blind man can. Can you hold a pen with you toes? A person without hands can not only hold but also make beautiful paintings. Remember the swimmer who got the gold in Olympics They are not born with all the part like you nor did they get these abilities by birth. But they were able to unleash the power within them. They know what they really want in life and they put in all their efforts into one sole goal; to overcome their disability. Now what would you like to call them? Disabled or Differently-Able .I came across a story where a patient say George was in a hospital and was feeling lonely. He could not move as his whole body as plastered not even crane his neck.. Next day another patient say John was moved to his room. He was glad to have some company. John used to make the recovery actually lively. He used to describe about the things going on outside his window. He used to describe what was happening in the park nearby, describe about the how a newly married couple were enjoying, about the old with their grandchildren. George used to hear all these narrations and after few days he began to get jealous for missing the beautiful things that John was watching. One day John passed away in sleep. Though George missed him, he immediately asked the attendants to shift his place to that of John’s near the window. He was moved there. Then he tried to crane his neck and look out of the window. To his dismay all he saw was a wall; the window was facing a wall. He thought that John cheated him. Later he came to know that John was blind. Then he realized how foolishly he behaved. He realized that life looks the way we make it. If you keep sulking on what has happened to you then no one can help you. But if you consider that what ever happened in your life is for your own good, take the cues life is giving you then you will be driven to your destiny. Life gives you ample chances to live. You just have to chance upon them.
